KIM TALKS THE CUTTERS PROGRESSION IN 2022

AS OUR SQUADS PROGRESS INTO SEASON 2022, KIM WILLIAMS TAKES US THROUGH THE PROGRESSION OF THE HOSTPLUS CUP AND HASTINGS DEERING COLTS. KIM SAYS THERE IS A STRONG FOUNDATION TO BUILD UPON IN THE HOSTPLUS CUP SQUAD,

“THERE’S A LOT OF BELIEF AND CONFIDENCE WITHIN THE GROUP, THAT WE CAN BE COMPETITIVE AND PUSH FOR FINALS”.

THE NEXT BLOCK OF TWO GAMES WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT TO GET US BACK INTO THE TOP 4. “THE AIM WILL BE TO WIN BOTH OF THOSE GAMES,” SAYS KIM.

“There’s a fairly big cluster of teams on 4 points at the moment, 2 wins will help us push down a few of those mid table teams and assist us in getting back into the top 4.”

Kim is finding that the Hastings Deering Colts are on a similar path as our Hostplus Cup squad. The Colts are currently sitting at 1 win and 1 loss. In their last game against the Capras “they had opportunities to win the game, after leading 12-4 at half time”. This was a similar pattern to the Hostplus cup squad says Kim, who also noted the Colts “had a chance to close that game out”. Kim expects there to be a lot of improvement in the squad after this learning curve. With the majority of the players being fresh to the squad, they’re “learning what it takes to compete at this level” says Kim.

“Its a lot about your consistency through everything you do on and off the field”.

Kim has highlighted a few star players that have helped the Hostplus Cup squad as a whole succeed, his first pick was Jayden Morgan, who is new to the forward pack this year. Kyle Schneider and Sean Mullany, also received praise from Kim

“They have stand out performances on and off the field”.

He next mentions Blake Paskins “I think he’s been a big improver from the off season to the early games (of this season) I think he’d be pretty happy with his form”. Blake first made his debut for the Hostplus Cup in 2021, and has previously excelled in our Hastings Deering Colts and Mal Meninga Cup squads.

Kim also noted Brandon Finnegan, who is developing as a halfback, and mentioned his efforts to “become a leader within the team, he’s taken that role on and been quite impressive in these early games.”

This weekend our squads are having a well needed Easter break before they hit the paddock again in the Round 5 clash against the Falcons down at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
