MEDIA RELEASE VERSION 1
Issued – 5th September, 2023
As of the 11th of September BB Print Stadium’s management will be taken over by Mackay Regional Council. The stadium will remain the home of Mackay Cutters, but the Council’s MECC and Events staff will collaborate with us to help attract more events to the council-owned facility.
This means greater resources to manage our six rugby league teams and expand our membership and sponsorship bases, ultimately strengthening our presence in the community.
Mitch Cook, CEO expressed his gratitude for the proactive approach of the council, saying, “This is a tremendous outcome for the stadium, our region’s economy, and Mackay’s sports and events enthusiasts. We can now focus wholeheartedly on our passion for footy, knowing that our interests in the stadium are in capable hands as part of a broader plan to enhance and activate the facility in the future.”
Council CEO, Scott Owen, underlined the significance of this transition, stating, “The Mackay Stadium Masterplan has played a pivotal role in shaping this transition. Council has allocated $3.1 million in its current budget for Mackay Stadium refurbishment and master planning for future development. Additionally, the Cutters’ management contract was up for renewal, prompting us to explore options for stadium management and operation.”
This collaboration promises exciting prospects for the Mackay region, and both the Mackay Cutters and the MECC and Events team are eager to work hand in hand to create memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.
