Mackay Rugby League fans will get their first look at the 2012 Skills Training Mackay Cutters this week-end when they go head to head with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Under 20’s.
The ‘Cutters’ will go into the game with a mixture of youth and experience and hope to the turn the tables on a Cowboys outfit that comprehensively beat them in the corresponding game last year. “While trials are exactly that, we have definitely selected a side that will compete strongly against some of the best young players in North Queensland.” Head Coach Anthony Seibold said. “The Cowboys 20’s lost the NYC Grand Final last year in extra time, so this will be a game of very high quality,” he added.
Local product, Michael Comerford, will lead the Cutters for the first time. Comerford is a foundation player with the club and in recent years has shown all the necessary leadership qualities. “Michael thoroughly deserves the chance to captain the Cutters,” commented Club Captain Grant Rovelli. “He was one of our most consistent performers last season. You always know what you are going to get from him. I am sure he will relish the chance to lead the boys out in front of his home fans.” Rovelli added.
The main game kicks off at Virgin Australia Stadium at 6pm on Saturday night with gates opening at 2:45pm for preliminary games. Tickets are available for pre-purchase at the MECC or at the gate on entry.
