The Mackay Cutters in association with the Whitsunday Miners have this year decided to support the cancer Council Queensland through hosting a CALL TO ARMS event.

On 7 March 2010, they will host a celebrity 20-20 Cricket Match at Harrup Park, which will be a special event with considerable public interest and media promotion.

The funds raised from these events will go towards the support services and research projects being undertaken by the Cancer Council Queensland.

The Cancer Council Queensland endorses this event and authorises the Cutters and Miners to seek financial contributions from the corporate sector and general community to help support the event.

CALL TO ARMS was launched in 2008, it is promoted through men's sporting organisations and events. The aim is to raise awareness of men's cancer, in particular prostate cancer which is the most common and curable with the best results obtained if diagnosed early, therefore community awareness is very important.

Funds raised from this event, will go directly to research, prevention and early detection programs being run throughout Queensland.

More than 12,000 Queensland men are diagnosed with cancer each year and more that 4,000 die each year, so identifying cures through research is vital.
