A WINNING team has been assembled to guide the Mackay Cutters through the 2010 Queensland Cup.

The coach, assistant coach and trainer were all part of Souths Logan’s dominant run through the past two seasons of the Queensland Cup.

Souths Logan won the premiership in 2008 and the minor premiership last year, only to be eliminated in a semi-final.

“We’ve got a winning team, a group that knows what to do,” coach Paul Bramley said of the STM Cutters’ coaching and administrative team.

“This is all about trust. You’ve got people you know can do the job and what the competition is about.

“The players need to know what to do and to trust us as well.”

Assistant coach is former English Super League halfback Carl Briggs, who is based in Brisbane and was with Bramley at Souths Logan over the past two seasons.

The trainers are former Cowboy Glen Murphy, who was also at Souths Logan, and Kerrod Toby, a former Mackay player who was the Cutters’ player of the year in their first season.

Brett Sartor, who has been with the Cutters for two years, is strength and conditioning coach, while the medical team is made up of club doctor Ashley Nattrass and physio Tom McMillan.

The Cutters staff is rounded out by manager Tony Gamble, who is in his second year, operations manager Jamie McDonald, and accounts and administration officer Crystal Pulsford. Briggs, who will remain in Brisbane, will be Bramley’s “eyes and ears” at the state capital, scouting the form of rivals.

“I’ll be interacting with the team in any way I can to make it successful,” he said.

“I’ll be flying up as needed and will attend away games in Brisbane.

“I’ll be out and about when I can with the Cutters and I’ll go and watch other matches and give Paul a detailed report.”

Briggs said things were looking positive for the Cutters, after the squad was completed at the weekend with the arrival of former English Super League hooker Neil Budworth.

“There’s going to be competition for spots in the side, which is nice,” he said. “You need competition from fullback to the forwards, and hopefully that is going to happen.”
