Mackay Regional Sugar Festival

May 14, 2010

The Mackay Regional Sugar Festival 2010 is upon us, with a whole week of interesting and fun activities for the whole family.

People have been flocking to Souths Leagues Club to view “The Cutty Sark” a painting by the late John E Smith which will be auctioned on 4MKAM Breakfast with Hammo on Tuesday 18th May.

This is your chance to purchase a wonderful painting that will also be an investment for the future.

The BSES Field Days open at 9am on Thursday and Friday at the BSES Te Kowai property where everything that is new and innovative in the Sugar Industry is on view for all to see and learn.

Even if you are not in the sugar industry, this is a great place to learn about what is the iconic industry of the Mackay region and maybe score a free lunch as well.

Thursday night is the opening of the Festival Art Competition in the Foyer of Mackay City Library from 6pm.
The art works will be on exhibition for public viewing for two weeks from Friday  for a fortnight.

Saturday is our fun day, with the STM Festival Float Parade from the Canegrowers Building in Wood Street, down Gordon Street to Queens Park where families can get set for four hours of fun, food and music at the 4MK/Zinc Community Party.

First there will be the Ecumenical Blessing of the harvest, followed by the presentation of trophies for the STM Float Parade, followed by the Sarina Sugar Shed Sweet Dash Senior and the Sucrogen Sweet Dash Junior for great prizes, followed by the Mackay Sugar Limited Community Concert featuring local band “Hullabaloo” and Sunshine Coast Band “The Rain” a country and blues group with two CDs now available.

And there will be food, drink and interesting stalls for everyone to enjoy, even a bar for Dad.

Between the two bands will be the drawing of the John Donnelly the Good Guys giveaway where the numbers will be called from the flyers which have been distributed during the past few weeks.

THE WINNERS MUST BE THERE WITH THEIR FLYER TO WIN!

The evening will close at 8pm with the tremendous Woodmans Mitre 10 Fireworks by Mr Fireworks to entertain everyone.

And Sunday brings the TackleWorld and Sunfish Junior Fishing Competition on the Pioneer River from 8am-3pm.

Children must register at TackleWorld on Shakespeare Street and they will be given an arm band which they must have on the day to win a prize.

All in all, a great Festival is planned, all it needs is lots of people to enjoy the events on offer.
See you at the Mackay Regional Sugar Festival 2010.
