Mackay Cutters show who they Bleed for...

July 1, 2010

More blood donors are needed in Queensland as part of the annual Donate for Your State challenge, and the Mackay Cutters are getting behind the cause by donning red socks in a show of support for QLD and the Blood Service.

Donate for Your State, a campaign run during the State of Origin series; sees QLD and NSW battle it out off the football field for the most number of blood donations.

Mackay Cutter’s captain Todd Seymour says currently the Blues are winning which is simply not acceptable.

The Mackay Cutters will be wearing red socks at their home game against the Norths Devils this Sunday 4th July to help raise the awareness of the need for blood.

“Right now there are more people who need blood for cancer treatments and other life-threatening conditions, than there are blood donors,” says Seymour.

“That’s why we are wearing the red socks. We want to encourage all Queenslanders to do their bit to help Australia’s blood supply.”

“Grab your mates, roll up your sleeves and give some maroon blood for QLD! Your saving lives at the same time," says Seymour.

Palmina Bonaventura of the Blood Service said the Mackay Cutters show great support for the Blood Service.

“Billy the Blood Drop will be at the home game to cheer the Cutters on for a big win.

“We’ll have tattoos for the kids, and are hoping to get 50 pledges from the crowd to donate blood in July”

“The Blood Service is a vital part of the community, without volunteer donors we can not meet the demand for blood and blood products. This month alone, Mackay needs 653 blood donations,” says Ms Bonaventura.

Do you bleed maroon or blue? Give blood for your State; there’s a lot more at stake than just pride.
