Cutters and Cowboys bleed for the Cause

June 29, 2009

Wednesday 1st July will see the Australian Red Cross Blood Service attend the Skills Training Mackay Cutters mid-season dinner along with special guests North QLD Cowboys coach Neil Henry and star players Johnathan Thurston and Willie Tonga.

Thurston, who will be presenting certificates thanking the STM Cutters and Souths Leagues Club for their support of the blood service, is himself a keen supporter, calling on Queenslanders to give Australia a boost of Maroon blood during the current ‘Donate for Your State’ campaign.

“I call on all Maroons’ fans to donate blood; probably the only thing better than beating the Blues would be the knowledge that you’re saving lives whilst doing it.”

“Whether you’re a regular donor, or have never given blood before, this is your chance to show support for your State of Origin team and your community” Thurston said.

Australian Red Cross Blood Service Liaison Officer Nicky Hansen will address members at the dinner on the importance of giving blood and how it helps save the lives of so many Australians every year.

“One in three Australians will need blood at some stage in their life, yet only one in thirty currently donate.“

“2009 Year of the Blood Donor is the perfect time for anyone who hasn’t donated before, to step forward, give blood and help save lives” said Nicky Hansen.

The Mackay Blood Donor Centre is open Monday to Thursday and will also be open Saturday 4th July 9am-1pm.

To help save three lives with every donation and support the Maroons in the ‘Donate for Your State’ battle, call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au today to make an appointment.
