Five-eighth
Daniel Abraham and lock
Jardine Bobongie will be joint
leaders of the Mackay Cutters
during their second season in
the Queensland Cup.
STMCutters coach Shane
Muspratt announced the two
as dual captains at training at
Victoria Park last night, in the
lead-up to the team’s first trial
of the season today at Shark
Park against Brisbane Easts.
Muspratt, a former North
Queensland Cowboys player
who led the Cutters in their
inaugural season but has now
retired to concentrate on
coaching, said the two
brought a wealth of experience
to their roles.
“They both have played
NRL,” he said.
“Abes (Abraham) is big on
talking and organising the
side, while for Jardine his
actions speak louder than
words.
“They are both very talented
and will give us a good
blend on the field.
“Jardine is from Mackay
and a lot of the boys haveplayed a lot of football with
him, while Abes has been with
us for a year and he’s always
going to be that dominating
sort of a player.
“They’ve been doing that
sort of role, and now it’s official.”
Meanwhile, also geared up
for their first trial is Souths’ A
grade side, which takes on the
Burdekin Roosters at Shark
Park today at 3pm.
However, rain continues to cause havoc for other Mercury
Cup sides, with both the
Whitsunday Brahmans and
Brothers having to cancel
trials after their opponents
Charters Towers and Springsure
couldn’t get to Mackay.
